Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia recently made a significant announcement, revealing the allocation of GH¢177 million to the Health Ministry.
This allocation aims to settle the long-overdue allowances owed to nursing trainees nationwide. These allowances, which had been pending for months, were reinstated by the Akufo-Addo administration following their abolition.
Addressing a gathering of nurses and midwives in Accra, Dr. Bawumia conveyed that the funds would be disbursed promptly, with the transfer scheduled for Thursday.
He emphasized the urgency of the matter, instructing Dr. Okoe-Boye to remain vigilant. Upon receipt of the allocated funds, they are to expedite the process of transferring the money from the Ministry of Health’s account to the accounts of nursing trainees.
In his own words, Dr. Bawumia stated, “This Thursday, the Controller is transferring GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to pay the nursing training allowances. So I have also alerted Dr. Okoe-Boye to be on standby when the money hits the Ministry of Health account, they should move it quickly to the accounts of the nursing trainees so that they will have their alawa. It will drop.” This assurance brings hope and relief to countless nursing trainees awaiting their rightful allowances.
