Vice Chairman of the Bawumia 2024 Campaign Team, Nana Akomea, says he is confident that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will secure a stronger showing in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries than he did in 2023.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, December 8, Akomea noted that Bawumia’s popularity has continued to rise despite no longer holding office. He argued that this growing support base places Bawumia in a favourable position ahead of the January contest.
The NPP will elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026. Dr. Bawumia is contesting the slot alongside former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.
Akomea acknowledged the competitiveness of the race but maintained that Bawumia’s extensive experience in government and his track record in public service give him a clear advantage. He encouraged party delegates to assess each aspirant carefully, focusing on their capacity to lead the party and secure victory in the next general elections.
“Bawumia’s popularity, without the incumbency appears to have increased that is why I told you that he will do better than he did in 2023. It is just a month away, you wait and see,” Nana Akomea said.
