Bayern Munich’s 22 year old Jamal Musiala suffered a horrific ankle fracture during their 2-0 loss the PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday, July 5 2025
To add “INJURY to SALT,” the injury gods showed up again as they sent Jamal Musiala right back to the sidelines. After coming back from a long layoff, Jamal Musiala sustained what is feared to be a serious anke injury in the game that saw his side lose to their German opponents at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, USA as the terrible injury overshadowed the win for PSG.
Right before the end of the first half, Musiala sustained the injury when he came into a 50-50 collision with PSG goalkeeper Gigi Donnarumma, after defender Willian Pacho came in between the two to protect the ball from his opponent for his goalkeeper to grab it but Musiala who was coming in from behind collided with the goalkeeper and had the goalkeeper lay his entire body on his ankle with intense pressure from the speed he was carrying.
Musiala after the incident was see screaming in pain and agony as he realized he had broken his ankle in the process.
The game ended with goals from Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembele to seal a semifinal berth for the French and European champions at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.
Addressing the injury, manager Vincent Kompany spoke after the game. According to Bayern Munich’s MiaSanMia Media, Kompany was rather curt and did not speak much on the topic apart from expressing that he hopes Musiala has the best possible recovery.
“It was emotional. Of course it didn’t look good. I hope it’s not too bad, but it didn’t look good. I hope he’ll have the best possible recovery,” Kompany stated.
“It didn’t look good, I don’t know ... it looks like an ankle injury of some type ... but I’m not going to make a diagnosis here,” he added.
After diagnosis by doctors, the 22 year old is expected to be out of action and spend some significant number of months on the sidelines.
“Jamal Musiala has broken his left fibula and damaged several ligaments. He will likely be out for 4-5 months” according to @BILD
