Belgian side Royal Francs Borains have secured the services of Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Essiam on a season-long loan from Swiss giants FC Basel.
The 21-year-old midfielder makes the switch in search of regular playing time, having struggled for minutes in Switzerland’s top flight.
Essiam first rose to prominence during the 2021 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played a pivotal role in helping the Black Satellites clinch the continental title. His standout performances earned him a move to FC Basel in early 2022, opening the door to his European journey.
Since then, the versatile midfielder has gained experience through loan spells at Stade Lausanne-Ouchy and most recently at FC Aarau in the Swiss second division, where he featured 14 times last season. Across his Basel career and loan stints, he has already amassed 41 professional appearances.
Borains sporting director Laurent D’Affnay welcomed the signing, praising Essiam’s qualities:
“Emmanuel is a player we’ve been monitoring for a long time. He brings intensity and will help us achieve our goals this season.”
The Ghanaian midfielder also expressed his excitement about the new challenge:
“I liked the club’s project. After speaking with the director and coach, I felt this was the right place to continue my development. I want to reach my full potential here and contribute to the team’s success.”
For Essiam, the move represents a crucial step as he looks to secure consistent game time and continue his growth towards fulfilling the promise he showed on the continental stage with Ghana’s U20 side.
