Ghana’s goalkeeping fortress is now complete in Japan as Hearts of Oak’s Benjamin Asare arrived in Nagoya on Thursday morning, becoming the final player to report to the Black Stars camp ahead of Friday’s international friendly against Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup. His arrival brings the squad to full strength with 22 players now in camp.
Asare is expected to take part in the team’s final training session later today at the Toyota Stadium in Aichi, where Ghana will wrap up preparations for the high-profile encounter. The match, scheduled for Friday, November 14, is the first of two friendlies on Asian soil, with a second test against South Korea set for November 18 — both key fixtures in Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Nicknamed “Clean Sheets” for good reason, Asare was instrumental in Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign. He featured in six matches, conceding just once — a record that places him joint-top among Ghanaian goalkeepers alongside Richard Ofori for the fewest goals allowed during the qualifiers.
Despite recent scrutiny following Hearts of Oak’s 1-0 defeat to rivals Asante Kotoko in the Super Clash, Asare remains a pillar of consistency and confidence between the sticks. His return to the national setup is not just a boost in numbers, but a reinforcement of experience, resilience, and quiet leadership.
Love him or question him, one thing is clear: Benjamin Asare has earned his place. And as the Black Stars prepare to test themselves against Japan’s technical precision and South Korea’s relentless pace, his presence could prove decisive.
