Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child has been speaking to The LA Times about what it meant to be part of Beychella (that's Beyonce at Coachella FYI) over the past two weekends in the California desert.

Queen Bey brought her old pals Michelle and Kelly Rowland out for a mini-band reunion - to celebrate their 20th anniversary - which included renditions of their hits Lose My Breath, Soldier and Say My Name.

The singer also infused her performance with black power symbolism, including a black power shield, a raised fist and nods to Queen Nefertiti and the first African-American college fraterntiy Alpha Phi Alpha.

"First of all, long time coming" said Michelle, when asked about the "proudly African performance" as the publication put it.

"Music can heal and it can unite; it can unite races, cultures, faiths.

And that's what we saw out there in that audience. Destiny's Child was able to do that; Beyoncé was able to do that. I'm not trying to get sappy, preachy, whatever. But there's enough out there to divide us.

"I just love what she was able to do. I told her; 'you have definitely had a hand in shifting the culture.'"

Beyonce has previously tackled social issues of race and gender on her Grammy-winning (best urban contemporary album) Lemonade.

Michelle went on to describe getting the old band back together as "a blessing".

“Beyonce and Kelly - they’ve been in the game for, what, 23 years?.

“Me just 18 years. And when people see us together, they still lose their minds!"

She added: "People are asking, 'When y’all gonna tour? When y’all gonna put out new music?'

"It’s been 14 years since we’ve had an album together, and people are still asking.”
