Players of the Black Meteors, Ghana's national under-23 football team, have rallied together to make a cash donation of GHC13,000.00 to support their teammate, William Essu, who is currently battling a serious medical condition.
This gesture highlights the challenges faced by players in the local football scene, shedding light on issues related to salaries and player welfare.
William Essu, a former goalkeeper for Legon Cities, had fallen seriously ill, and it was revealed that he had even written letters to the coach of the Black Meteors seeking help to access unpaid bonuses for his medical treatment.
Unfortunately, his former teammate at Legon Cities, Sylvester Sackey, had passed away due to an ailment, further highlighting the precarious health conditions of some local players.
In addition to the players' donation, the GFA Foundation contributed an amount of GHS10,000.00 to support William Essu's medical expenses.
William Essu was a member of the Black Meteors team that successfully qualified for the CAF U23 AFCON.
The Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG) also visited William Essu to offer support and assistance during his health challenges.
This collective effort underscores the importance of solidarity and support within the football community.
