Assistant Coach Anita Wiredu-Minta of the Black Princesses is optimistic about Ghana's prospects at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, aiming for the team to advance beyond the group stage.

This tournament marks Ghana’s seventh consecutive appearance, but the team has historically struggled to progress past the group stage, having not advanced further in their previous six attempts from 2012 to 2022.

With the tournament set to commence on August 31, Wiredu-Minta expressed her confidence in the team's ability to break this pattern.

“Our goal this time is to move past the group stage and set a new benchmark for Ghanaian football,” she told the Ghana Football Association (GFA). “We’re not just aiming to participate but to make a significant impact.”

Wiredu-Minta acknowledged the weight of the expectations but sees it as an encouraging challenge. “It’s a good challenge for us to get past the group stage and make a significant mark in the World Cup.”

Under head coach Yussif Basigi, the Black Princesses have shown strong form this year.

They clinched gold in the Women’s Football competition at the 2023 African Games and won the WAFU B Girls Championship in Kumasi last year, reflecting their readiness and strength for the global stage.

The Black Princesses are eager to demonstrate their capabilities and aim to make a memorable impact in the World Cup.
