Ghana’s U20 women’s national team, the Black Princesses, kicked off their WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup title defense in style with a composed 2-0 victory over host nation Benin on Friday, November 7.
The reigning champions asserted early dominance through wide play and swift transitions, though Benin’s compact defense initially held firm. Ghana’s breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when Diana Amoako delivered a pinpoint long pass to Agnes Yeboah, who selflessly squared the ball for Linda Owusu Ansah to calmly slot home.
Benin struggled to mount a response, rarely threatening the Ghanaian backline as the visitors maintained control and entered halftime with a deserved lead.
Head coach Charles Sampson made a tactical switch after the break, introducing Sarah Nyarko to inject fresh energy into the attack. The Dreamz Ladies midfielder made an immediate impact, sealing the win in the 78th minute with a composed finish.
Midfield maestro Latifa Musa earned Player of the Match honors for her commanding presence and control in the middle of the park.

The result gives Ghana a strong start in their quest to retain the title they won last year. Up next, the Black Princesses face archrivals Nigeria on Saturday, November 8, in a highly anticipated group-stage showdown.
