Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has hailed 2025 as a “crazy year” for the Black Queens, celebrating the team’s rapid progress under his leadership.
The Swedish tactician, who took charge in January, guided Ghana to a bronze medal at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and capped the year with strong performances against elite opposition.
“They have been amazing. Difficult sometimes, but overall it has been a great experience, and I’m so happy that I took the opportunity to be the head coach for the Black Queens,” Bjorkegren said.
WAFCON 2025 Highlights
- Semi-final heartbreak: Narrowly lost to hosts Morocco on penalties, missing out on the final.
- Bronze medal triumph: Defeated South Africa in the third-place playoff.
- Celebration at home: The achievement sparked nationwide pride, marking Ghana’s best finish in recent years.
Bjorkegren described the tournament as a major step forward, crediting the squad’s tactical growth and physical preparation.
“We grew a lot as a group… Losing on penalties was tough, but winning the third place was special. It was an amazing summer with a great celebration in Ghana.”
Continued Progress
