Desmond Ofei, head coach of Ghana’s U20 national team, the Black Satellites, has expressed high hopes for his star forward, Jerry Afriyie, to advance to the Black Stars in the near future.

Afriyie, who plays for Thoughts FC, was recently honored as the Best Player and Top Scorer of the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship in Togo, showcasing his talent and potential on the international stage.

The young forward played a crucial role in Ghana's campaign, scoring five goals in five games and helping the team reach the final.

Although Ghana lost 2-1 to Nigeria in the championship match, Afriyie’s contributions were instrumental in securing the Black Satellites' qualification for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Coach Ofei praised Afriyie’s attitude and potential, stating, “With Jerry, we're really happy because he's a very hungry lad, down to earth, and you know, he's a goal scorer, so I'm really happy for him.”

Ofei believes Afriyie’s career is on an upward trajectory and envisions a future where the young star makes his way into the senior national team.

Afriyie’s standout tournament performance included a brace in the opening match against Benin and another goal in the final group game against Togo, solidifying his reputation as a goal scorer with promise.

His consistent impact and determination have fueled hopes that he will soon make a successful transition to European club football, which Ofei believes would further enhance his chances of joining the Black Stars.
