Desmond Ofei, assistant coach of the Black Stars, has been named head coach of Ghana’s U23 national team, the Black Meteors, as the country intensifies its bid to qualify for the Olympic Games for the first time since Athens 2004.

Offei, a Belgium-trained tactician, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having led the Black Satellites (U20) to Africa Games gold in 2023 and guided them back to the Africa Youth Championship earlier this year after a four-year absence.

The Ghana Football Association has assembled a well-rounded backroom staff to support Ofei’s Olympic mission:

  • Assistant Coach: Yaw Preko – former Ghana international and ex-U15/U17 national team coach

  • Goalkeepers Trainer: Muntari Tagoe – former Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC shot-stopper

  • Team Manager: Atta Yeboah – Welfare Officer at Aduana FC

  • Team Masseur: Henry Bart-Plange

  • Equipment Officer: Baba Aluta (Aduana FC)

  • Video Analyst: Eli Vorgbe – tasked with modern tactical support

  • Team Doctor: Dr. Eric Tetteh

  • Physiotherapist: Collins Annor

The Black Meteors have not qualified for the Olympic Games since their appearance in Athens 2004, and Ofei’s appointment signals a renewed push to restore Ghana’s presence on the global stage.

With a blend of youth development expertise and senior national team insight, Ofei is expected to instill tactical discipline, modern training methods, and a winning mentality in the squad.
