Ghana’s national team camp in Vienna was hit by a robbery ahead of Friday’s friendly against Austria. Two players reported Rolex watches (worth about $20,000) stolen after Wednesday’s training session, and the next day a staff member found €2,250 in cash missing.
The team immediately informed Vienna police, though hotel security footage review was hindered by “faulty cameras”, no injuries have been reported. Despite the incident, Ghana will play Austria as scheduled at 17:00 GMT, followed by a match in Germany, as preparations continue for the 2026 World Cup.

. The camp began that day, with training starting on Monday
. After the team’s third practice session on Wednesday, a player noticed his Rolex watch was missing
. A second player also reported a watch stolen. The combined value of the two missing Rolex watches is around $20,000, no players were harmed, and police said the theft was reported at the team’s hotel.
The following day (Thursday), a member of the technical staff discovered €2,250 in cash missing from his room
. Team officials contacted the Vienna police immediately. Hotel management reportedly allowed police to review CCTV, but “faulty cameras” meant some footage was unavailable
. The Black Stars’ management team has since formally involved Vienna police to investigate the crime
. As of Friday, no arrests have been announced by either Ghanaian or Austrian authorities.
Despite the robbery, Ghana’s coach Otto Addo emphasized his players must stay focused on football. “It will be an intense game… They have a good team, but we will face them squarely,” Addo said at a press conference
. Captain Jordan Ayew and other players have not publicly commented on the robbery.
Ghana will play Austria at Vienna’s Ernst-Happel-Stadion on Friday (kick-off 17:00 GMT), then travel to Stuttgart to play Germany on Monday, 30 March. These friendlies are part of tests as Ghana prepares for the World Cup in North America this summer
The team has expressed determination to put the disruption behind them and focus on their World Cup campaign.
