Abdul Salam Yakubu, the owner and club president of New Edubiase United, has pointed accusing fingers at the players of the Black Stars and absolved head coach Chris Hughton of any blame.
This follows defeat in the second game in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Comoros in Moroni on Tuesday.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Yakubu, a controversial football administrator, criticized the players of the Black Stars for their poor showing in the match.
Yakubu went on to absolve head coach Chris Hughton of any blame, placing the responsibility on the players for their lackluster performance.
He questioned the effectiveness of blaming Hughton, highlighting the experience of players like Jordan Ayew and Inaki Williams.
In defense of Hughton, Yakubu said, "How can you blame Chris Hughton for the team's poor performance?
How many days do these players spend at the national team camp, and what can Hughton teach seasoned professional players like Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams, and others? I believe we must talk to the boys to up their game, but I don't see the coach as the problem."
With the World Cup qualifiers disappointment behind them, Ghana now shifts its focus to the upcoming 2023 AFCON tournament, scheduled to be held in January 2024 in neighboring Ivory Coast.
The national team will be looking to regroup and perform at their best in the continental competition.
