Despite the halt in the sale of Blue Jeans Energy drinks by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Pulse.com.gh has established that the regulatory body has failed to seize the product from sellers.

The FDA’s halt in the sale of the product comes on the back of a video which circulated on social media last December on an energy drink alleged to be Blue Jeans Energy Drink.

The said video showed that the product had been relabelled as Blue Jeans Energy Drink, but it appeared the product was not Blue Jeans Energy Drink.

The FDA subsequently indicated that it had taken further steps by ordering; “Cessation of the distribution and sale of all Blue Jeans Energy Drinks; total recall from trade of the special Christmas consignment of Blue Jeans Energy Drinks with labels bearing Santa Claus (Father Christmas), and submission of all relevant documents for its examination.”

But checks from Pulse Ghana’s Alice Adu on major streets of Accra show that the drink is still being sold publicly in various shops, especially in areas around East Legon and Shiashie.

Many of the traders said they had no idea that there is a halt in the sale of the drink.

Could this be a sign that the FDA is failing to remove the drink from the market until the end of its investigations?

Mr James Lartey, the Communications Director of FDA had earlier told Pulse.com.gh that his outfit is still making attempts to withdraw the product from the market, as it continues with its investigations.
