The bodies of two children and a man have been found at a house in Leicestershire, police have said.

Officers were called to a house in Welwyn Road, Hinckley, at about 9.30pm on Tuesday following calls from residents reporting a disturbance.

Negotiators and specialist officers were sent to the scene, where they said contact was made with a man and a woman at the semi-detached house.

Following several hours of negotiations, an injured woman left the address in the early hours this morning. She was given first aid at the scene and she is now said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said officers then gained access to the property, where the man was found dead.

The bodies of the two children were discovered during a search of the house.

Forensic examinations are still taking place at the scene and the house remains cordoned off.

Detective Chief Superintendent David Sandall, head of the force's Crime and Intelligence Directorate, said it was not yet known what caused the deaths of the man and the two children.

Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

DCS Sandall said: "A number of inquiries are now underway to understand what caused the three deaths, and the circumstances surrounding the events of last night in the house.

"Whilst we are not, at this stage, looking for anyone in connection with what happened, we would like to hear from anyone who may have information for us.

"Police officers and other specialist units will remain in the area in order to carry out necessary inquiries."

Resident Wendy Aubrey told The Hinckley Times she was "woken up by screaming" at 2.30am.

She said her neighbour saw a woman standing in the street and called the police.

"All the cars came down, there were loads of them," she said. "I was kept awake by all the doors banging."

Police have been working since the early hours to make contact with relatives of those involved, and said next of kin are now aware.

As officers were in contact with both the man and the woman during the evening, the Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed of the deaths.
