The Bank of Ghana has clarified that payouts received by Ghanaian digital content creators— including earnings from X—are classified as service export proceeds.

According to the central bank, such inflows are fully permitted under existing foreign exchange regulations. Creators can receive payments through Foreign Exchange Accounts (FEAs) or directly into Ghana cedi accounts, provided all regulatory requirements are met.

The BoG acknowledged concerns from some creators about difficulties in accessing their funds, noting that such challenges should not typically arise when transactions are processed correctly.

It added that it is reviewing the situation and engaging relevant financial institutions to identify the root of the problem and resolve it promptly.

The Bank reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a stable financial system that supports legitimate cross-border transactions, including digital earnings now recognised as part of Ghana’s service exports.
