German giants Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the release of their talent coach, Otto Addo, as he takes charge as the new Ghana Black Stars coach.

The former Ghana midfielder began working for the German side in April 2019 as an assistant coach and talent coach.

Dortmund took to their official X handle to announce the departure of Otto Addo as the new Ghana coach.

"Borussia Dortmund and talent coach Otto Addo will part ways in the summer as he embarks on his new role as coach for the Ghanaian national team.
We wish him nothing but the best as he embraces this exciting new chapter in his career!

Thank you for everything, Otto! 🇬🇭" the club announced.

This follows the recommendation of a five-member committee tasked to find a new manager for the team, which the Ghana Football Association says it has accepted.

Addo will join Ghana this international break, after which he will return to Borussia Dortmund to finalise handing over in his role as talent coach, then begin work for the Black Stars in May.

The Black Stars have been without a permanent coach since the dismissal of Chris Hughton and his technical staff following a disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where the team failed to progress beyond the group stages, finishing third in Group B behind Cape Verde and Egypt.

Under his guidance, Ghana secured qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a victory over Nigeria in the playoffs, although the team did not advance beyond the group stage in Qatar.
