Artiste manager and entertainment pundit Bullgod has once again reaffirmed his belief that Shatta Wale remains Ghana’s unrivaled Dancehall king.
Speaking on Joy Prime, Bullgod—who previously managed Shatta Wale—was responding to a viewer’s question about who he considers the true leader of the Dancehall genre in Ghana.
According to him, while Stonebwoy is an exceptionally gifted artiste, his style aligns more with Afro-Dancehall than with the core, traditional form of Dancehall.
“Shatta has always stayed loyal to the pure Dancehall sound. Stonebwoy also does brilliantly, but he himself identifies with Afro-Dancehall. For the real Dancehall crown, you cannot take it away from Shatta. He has worn it and defended it for years. The evidence is there, and it cannot be denied,” Bullgod stated.
His remarks come amid a renewed debate within Ghana’s music industry about the origins of Afro-Dancehall and who deserves credit for popularizing the term.
In a separate interview on the same platform, Stonebwoy clarified that although the fusion style existed before, he was the first to coin the term “Afro-Dancehall.”
The multiple award-winning musician also paid tribute to Samini, acknowledging him as the pioneer of African Dancehall.
“My African Dancehall king is one and only Samini. With all due respect and full conviction, he holds that title. The accolades prove it — he was Ghana’s first MOBO Award winner, which says it all,” Stonebwoy affirmed.
The ongoing debate among Ghana’s top Dancehall acts reflects the genre’s evolution and growing influence across Africa and beyond.
Ghanaian entertainment analyst, Bullgod, has backed Shatta Wale as the Dancehall King of Africa.
While he acknowledges Stonebwoy as a talented artist, Bullgod believes that Shatta Wale has played a more significant role in advancing the Dancehall genre than anyone else. pic.twitter.com/w32tdFB7iH
