A Burkinabé truck driver, identified as Guigma Moise, narrowly escaped death after a near-collision with a VIP bus on the Accra-Kumasi Highway at Odumasi near Ohene Nkwanta in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality.

The accident, which occurred on Friday, reportedly happened when the VIP bus made a dangerous overtaking maneuver, forcing the driver of the 18-wheeler Sino Truck (BF-0338-T2-03) to veer off the road.

The truck, which was carrying a load of heavy metals, skidded near the Rider Iron Steel Company before coming to a halt.

Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service quickly arrived at the scene to prevent further accidents and worked to remove the vehicle from the highway.

The injured driver, who was the sole occupant, was rushed to Hope Care Hospital for medical attention.

Authorities are investigating the incident, which has once again drawn attention to reckless driving and wrongful overtaking on Ghana’s major highways.
