Central Region's most wanted thief has been arrested in the Western Regional capital, Takoradi.

The suspect identified as Paa Kwesi, popularly known as ‘Oboye Spirit’, was arrested with a 42-inch television set Tuesday dawn at the Takoradi Central business district area by an assemblyman and his watchdog committee.

The 29-year-old man, who has since been handed to the police in Cape Coast, was paraded through some principal streets of Takoradi Market Circle in a bid to make mockery of him.

Other items found on him included a screwdriver, a pair of scissors, a lighter and glue which he admitted to be using to steal mobile phones.

Assembly member for Cassava Farm in Takoradi, Abraham Rex Kutubebi, whose efforts led to the arrest of the suspect, told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson of Connect FM that he and his watchdog committee were on their routine dawn patrol when they spotted him carrying a 42-inch Samsung television.

“We became suspicious so we quickly intercepted him and upon our interrogation, we realised it was a stolen item. We further questioned him and he admitted he went to steal the TV set from Anaji, a surburb of Takoradi,” Mr Kutubebi narrated.

According to him, while the suspect was being paraded on the street, “an onlooker identified him as a very notorious criminal in Cape Coast so he assisted me to link up with Cape Coast Police.

The Police in Cape Coast, he said, confirmed that Oboye Spirit has been on their wanted list for months.

They collaborated with the police in Takoradi to transfer him to Cape Coast.

Many residents in Cape Coast are reported to have besieged the police station to catch a glimpse of the suspect upon hearing of his arrest.
