Former Ghana national team coach Charles Kwabla (CK) Akonnor has credited the impressive transformation of Sudan’s national team to the efforts of his compatriot Kwesi Appiah.
Appiah, who served as head coach of the Black Stars with Akonnor as his assistant, has revitalized the North African side's performance.
Under Appiah’s guidance, the Falcons of Jediane have achieved four victories in seven matches, placing them two points ahead of Senegal in Group B of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and currently in second place in Group F of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Appiah's leadership was pivotal in the recent AFCON qualifiers, where Sudan managed to hold Ghana to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium. The second leg of this encounter is set for Tuesday, October 15, in Libya.
“He is just as capable now as he was with the Ghana national team. He may not be vocal, but he is well-versed in the modern tactics of football,” Akonnor stated in an interview with Joy Sports.
“Anyone who claims he lacks knowledge is mistaken. He has transformed this Sudan team into a fearless and confident unit, and that can only be attributed to Kwasi Appiah's influence.”
