Ashgold made sure of qualification to the next stage of the Caf Confederations Cup after easily dispatching off with Equatoguineans Akonangui Stars by 3 nil at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium in the 2nd leg encounter of the preliminary round stage.

It was a flurry of goals in the first half by prolific marksman Shafiu Mumuni that did the trick for the miners ensuring they qualified on a 4-1 aggregate scoreline after the first leg ended 1-1.

Shafiu did not allow the visitors settle as he scored his first goal from the spot in the opening seconds of the game before adding his second some five minutes later after beautiful connecting with the ball from close range.

A startled Akonangui side did not know what hit them as quickly Shafiu completed the 'Shafiu' show by adding a third for his side to take full control of the game heading into the break.

The away side started the second half brightly but could not fashion out any goal scoring chances as the Ashgold defence stood their grounds to keep a clean sheet in the game.

It could have been more had the miners taking the chances that came their way but would be pleased with how well the played.

Ashgold will next play Moroccan side Renaissance Sportive de Berkane.
