The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that its 47th Ordinary General Assembly will take place on October 6, 2025, in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This decision comes a year after the city was forced to relinquish hosting rights for the 46th Assembly due to the outbreak of the Mpox epidemic, which led to the relocation of the event to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The return to Kinshasa signals CAF’s renewed confidence in the DRC's capacity to host high-level football governance events.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe will preside over the Assembly, which will convene presidents of all 54 member associations, representatives from the six CAF zonal unions, and senior football stakeholders from across the globe. FIFA President Gianni Infantino is also expected to attend, underlining the Assembly’s importance on the international football calendar.
CAF will distribute the meeting agenda and supporting documents—including its moral and financial reports—to member associations in the coming weeks.
The Assembly will serve as a key platform to evaluate the progress of African football, address existing challenges, and outline strategies for the future. Several landmark decisions are expected to emerge from the discussions, with a focus on:
-
Infrastructure development
-
Expansion of youth and grassroots competitions
-
Strengthening women’s football
-
Governance and administrative reforms
Ahead of the plenary session, a series of preliminary meetings will be held involving CAF’s six zonal unions: COSAFA, WAFU A, WAFU B, UNIFAC, CECAFA, and UNAF. These discussions will aim to reflect regional priorities while aligning strategies for broader continental implementation.
These preparatory sessions are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the final agenda, allowing regional bodies to influence the direction of CAF’s strategic focus in a unified manner.
Beyond the logistics, CAF’s return to Kinshasa carries symbolic weight. It represents a restoration of confidence in the city after the health-related disruption in 2024, reaffirming the DRC’s position within continental football governance. This will be the first time since the aborted 2024 event that Kinshasa hosts the Assembly.
As one of Central Africa’s most prominent urban centres, Kinshasa is now poised to become the epicentre of African football leadership.
The CAF Ordinary General Assembly is the organisation’s highest decision-making body, responsible for setting policy, reviewing the confederation’s operations, and steering the long-term growth of the sport across Africa.
With African football navigating an increasingly competitive and commercially dynamic global landscape, the 2025 Assembly in Kinshasa is expected to be particularly consequential. Key issues such as CAF’s financial health, strategic partnerships, and preparations for major international tournaments are all likely to feature prominently.
As the October date approaches, attention will turn to Kinshasa, where Africa’s football future will be debated, shaped, and directed by its leading voices
