The Confederation of African Football (CAF), in partnership with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, has unveiled a comprehensive list of prohibited items across all tournament venues, with a strict ban on alcohol and laser pointers.

Key Safety Measures

  • Alcohol ban: In line with Moroccan law and cultural practices, alcohol will not be permitted in or around stadiums. The restriction extends to glass bottles, cans, and similar containers.

  • Laser pointers outlawed: CAF cited repeated incidents in African competitions where lasers were used to distract players, particularly goalkeepers, undermining fair play and raising safety concerns.

  • Other prohibited items:

  • Weapons

  • Pyrotechnics

  • Large bags beyond approved limits

  • Banners with political, religious, or offensive messages
LOC Statement

A Local Organization Committee (LOC) official stressed CAF’s zero tolerance approach:

“CAF is determined to enforce zero tolerance toward actions that endanger players or compromise the integrity of matches.”

Broader Security Plan

  • The regulations form part of a comprehensive security strategy for AFCON 2025.

  • Measures will be supported by trained safety and security personnel across all host cities.

  • Organisers emphasized that the focus remains firmly on football, fair play, and a family-friendly atmosphere.
Tournament Context

  • AFCON 2025 kicks off in December in Morocco.

  • Africa’s top stars will feature in what promises to be one of the most competitive editions of the tournament.

  • The new regulations aim to ensure a smooth and safe experience for fans, players, and officials alike.

CAF’s proactive stance reflects growing concerns about fan behaviour and the need to safeguard the integrity of African football’s biggest stage.
