The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has notified the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of its decision to grant an Exceptional Approval for the use of the Accra Sports Stadium.
This approval will allow CAF Champions League debutants FC Samartex 1996 and CAF Confederation Cup first-timers Nsoatreman FC to host their matches at the venue.
The GFA's Club Licensing Department initiated a re-homologation process for the Accra Sports Stadium, leading to this decision.
However, CAF reiterated that the stadium still has deficiencies that must be addressed.
These issues include the quality of the playing field, stands and spectator facilities, competition areas, media and medical facilities, and the quality of equipment and materials.
CAF has also specified that the stadium is not approved for any Category 3 matches, which include the group stage games of the CAF Interclub competitions and senior national team matches.
The GFA, the National Sports Authority (NSA), FC Samartex 1996, and Nsoatreman FC must collaborate to rectify these issues before another inspection is conducted, should the clubs qualify for the group stage of their respective competitions.
The GFA and NSA will continue to engage to ensure that the outstanding issues are addressed promptly, aiming to elevate the facility to a level where it can host Category 3 and 4 matches in the future.
