Asante Kotoko Communications Director Sarfo Duku has expressed strong belief in the club’s ability to overcome Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round, describing the upcoming clash as part of a “revival” for the Porcupine Warriors.
Kotoko advanced with a 5–3 aggregate win over Kwara United, capped by a 1–0 away victory in Abeokuta, and now face one of Africa’s most decorated clubs in Wydad Casablanca.
“We have history against Wydad Athletic Club,” Duku told Asempa FM.
“We have played against them twice, and we were just unlucky. For me, this year is a revival for Asante Kotoko, and I am confident we can overcome WAC.”
The tie promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the round, with both clubs boasting CAF Champions League titles but still chasing their first Confederation Cup crown. Wydad on the other hand, coming fresh from the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer, will look to prove strong in the contest as they strive to clinch their first ever CAF Confederations Cup title.
Before turning full attention to Wydad, Kotoko will host league leaders Heart of Lions in Matchday 4 of the Ghana Premier League, aiming to build momentum both locally and continentally.
