Carlos Queiroz to name Black Stars provisional 2026 World Cup Squad this week

Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to announce the Black Stars’ provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup later this week as preparations gather pace ahead of the tournament in North America.
The four-time African champions will compete at the expanded 48-team World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia in what is expected to be a highly competitive group.
Under FIFA regulations, all qualified nations must first submit provisional squads before confirming their final selections for the tournament.
Queiroz, appointed on a short-term basis following the departure of Otto Addo, is expected to unveil his initial squad in the coming days before naming the final team by 1 June.
The experienced Portuguese tactician faces the task of rebuilding confidence within the national side as Ghana seek to improve on recent World Cup performances.
As part of their preparations, the Black Stars are scheduled to face Mexico in an international friendly later this month before wrapping up their build-up against Wales on 2 June.
Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on 17 June in Toronto before taking on England on 23 June in Boston. Their final group match will be against Croatia on 27 June in Philadelphia.
The 2026 tournament will mark Ghana’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, following previous participations in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022.
The Black Stars’ finest World Cup campaign came in 2010 in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals and narrowly missed becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.
After disappointing group-stage exits in both 2014 and 2022, expectations are once again high as Ghana aim to make a stronger impact on football’s biggest stage.
