The Ghana Chamber Of Commerce and Industry is advocating some financial incentives for women in the rural areas to enable them to start their own businesses.

According to the Chamber, the move will help stimulate growth in such areas. The call comes as Ghana joins the world to celebrate International Women’s Day today.

Ghana has adopted the theme “Economic empowerment of rural women: A tool for sustainable development in a changing world of work,” for the day.

Women Organizer  for the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dr Regina Degadzor said government must quote something for women in SMEs to boost their business.

“If government can quote some money for women in SMEs and grassroots women, just something small to support so they can enhance their businesses for their business to grow because we visit women in the regions and all they need is something like Ghc200 t0 Gh¢500 not up to Ghc1000 just to boost their business,” she said.

International Women’s Day, originally called International Working Women’s Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year. It commemorates the struggle for women’s rights.
