It was a chaotic scene at the Kwabenya Police Station when a gang of suspected armed robbers stormed the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters on Sunday dawn.

The incident, which occurred at about 1 am saw the armed robbers shooting dead a police commander and freeing the cell inmates who were held at the Kwabenya Police Station.

The number of inmates who were freed is not immediately known, as the police is yet to make an official statement on the matter.

The identity of the slain commander is immediately not known.

Sources say the police have intensified their investigations in a bid to bring the perpetrators to book.

The leadership of the Ghana Police Service including the Inspector General of Police David Asante Apietu, Director of General operations, Dr. Dampare, Acting Director General, CID, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Dankwa and DCOP George Mensah are reported to have visited the crime scene.
