Ghanaian football legend Charles Taylor has expressed dissatisfaction with the composition of the Black Stars' technical team under head coach Otto Addo, highlighting concerns about the experience and suitability of some backroom staff members.
Speaking on Angel TV, the former Hearts of Oak star particularly questioned the appointment of former Ghana defender John Paintsil as an assistant coach, arguing that Paintsil himself had admitted he was not yet prepared for such a role.
"If you pick John Paintsil as an assistant, are you a good coach? Paintsil himself said he hadn’t gotten to that level yet but was given the role.
I want to know if the GFA or Otto Addo decides the backroom staff because the current people won’t help him to succeed," Taylor remarked.
Taylor urged Otto Addo to restructure his technical team, suggesting the inclusion of more experienced coaches to provide the necessary support.
He criticized the current setup, asserting that it lacks the expertise to guide the Black Stars to success.
"The technical team members don’t deserve to be there. Addo cannot qualify Ghana for the 2025 AFCON because his demeanour even shows.
You have this wealth of talented players, so why can’t you qualify from a group of Sudan, Angola, and Niger?" Taylor lamented.
His comments follow Otto Addo’s reported acknowledgment during a meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council that the lack of experience within his backroom staff contributed to Ghana's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The GFA has yet to make a final decision on Otto Addo's future, with further consultations involving key stakeholders, including political figures, planned.
As the conversation around the Black Stars' technical setup intensifies, Taylor's remarks echo the broader sentiment calling for reforms to restore the team's competitive edge.
