Chelsea's promising young defender Josh Acheampong is reportedly on the verge of agreeing to a new contract with the club, putting an end to the recent conflict over his contract situation, according to Football Insider.

The English-born player of Ghanaian descent had been sidelined from the Chelsea squad due to his reluctance to extend his contract.

As reported by The Athletic on October 22, Acheampong was not eligible to participate in any matches for the first team or development sides until he reached an agreement on a new deal.

Despite this setback, the 18-year-old defender is now poised to sign a contract extension with Chelsea, indicating a positive turnaround in negotiations.

Acheampong had previously attracted interest from Liverpool and was one of the academy talents introduced to the first team at the end of the 2023/24 season under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

He made his senior debut in a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in May, where he played the final 12 minutes of the match.

Positioned as the club's third-choice right-back behind Reece James and Malo Gusto, Acheampong has had limited playing time. His only appearance this season came in the EFL Cup against Barrow, where he played 27 minutes.

So far this season, Acheampong has made three appearances in Premier League 2, contributing one assist.

With a new contract on the horizon, he looks set to continue his development at Chelsea and potentially earn more opportunities in the first team.
