Chreponi violence: Another suspect in police grips in connection to recent conflict

One more suspect in connection to recent violence at Chreponi in the North-East region has been arrested by the police.
The violence which led to people been misplaced in the region was brought about between some factions of people belonging to the Konkomba and the Chokosi tribes.
The number of suspects in the grips of the police has now been raised to five.
The five, who are currently assisting the police with investigations are, Naweiban Petsey, 33-year-old, Konkomba, Yatali Nahundo, aged 37, a Konkomba, Malik Mohammed aged 26, a Chokosi, d Mamudu Manaduru aged 23, a Chokosi, and Ebanuibo Bilalukum, aged 37, also a Konkomba.
The battle between the Konkombas and the Chokosis, who are also known as the Anufuls broke out on Friday March 15 2019, leaving in the wake many children and women displaced as well as many in the neighbouring villages close to where the conflicts took place.
According to reports gathered by the press, many people have left the nearby villages running to safety.
Police and military patrol have been intensified in the communities.
The government has called on the people in Chereponi not to use violence to adress grievances for it is not a good path for resolving challenges in society.
The Information Minister, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, while addressing journalists at a media encounter in Accra on Sunday, said security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent further escalation of violence.
He said after peace and order has been restored to the area efforts would be made to understand the underlining factors and resolve the conflict once and for all.
The Minister said when people resort to violence in resolving their differences the law of the country must take its course.
