The suspects in police  custody over the recent violent clashes between Konkombas and Chokosis at Chreponi in the North East region has now risen to eight after three more apprehended.

The heated clash which occurred on Friday March 15 has left many in the town and its surrounding communities to be displaced.

The clash which is reported to have occurred when one faction opened fire on wedding guests leading to a reprisal.

The Northern Regional Police PRO, DSP Yussif Tanko, the police have adopted new techniques to deal with the situation in the area and ensure that peace and security are restored.

He said the men on the ground are doing patrols of the communities to ensure that there is no further escalation and also to assist those especially women and children who have been displaced.

The police have also called on the leadership of both  Chokosis, also known as Anufuls and Konkombas to talk to their people and call them to order and to let them know the effects of conflict.

Many of the displaced people are women and children.

Reports indicate that two people died and many others were injured with several properties destroyed as a result of the clashes. There were reprisal attacks throughout the weekend and on Monday.

DSP Yussif Tanko added “we have extended our patrols to a lot of places within the Chereponi, Saboba and some parts of the Yendi district. So we are on it and trying very hard to ensure that the situation is brought under control so that normal life will continue at the place".

Students and workers in the communities are leaving the community to ensure their safety.

One Anuful community known as Gbalu is reported to have been attacked on Monday at the Chreponi district, defying the call for calmness.
