Ghana's coach, Chris Hughton, emphasizes the Black Stars' intention to kick start their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a win.

Ghana, a four-time African champion, is set to face Cape Verde in their Group B opener on Sunday, January 14, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.

Hughton, the former manager of Newcastle United and Brighton, maintains that every team in the tournament is competitive, and the approach of the Black Stars remains consistent.

The primary goal is to secure a victory in their opening match.

"There is not one bad team in this tournament," says the 64-year-old coach. "Our approach to every game is the same.

We would like to begin on a winning note."

Ghana's last AFCON triumph dates back to 1982, and the team aims to end the 42-year trophy drought in this edition of the tournament.

After facing Cape Verde in their opener, the Black Stars will take on Egypt on Thursday, January 18, and conclude their group stage matches against Mozambique on January 22, 2024, both at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
