The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Lydia Yarkor Donkor, has issued a firm 24-hour directive to the authorities of Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) to present students suspected to have been involved in a violent incident that disrupted the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru.

Addressing students and staff during a visit to the school on February 23, COP Donkor cautioned that failure to comply would compel the Police to adopt more forceful investigative measures.

“If somebody has worn your school uniform to create such a scene or to conduct himself in such a manner, attacking a fellow human being, it brings disrepute to your school,” she said.
“As a school, you should be concerned to identify those responsible and hand them over to the police. I am giving you twenty-four hours to produce the students who attacked the boys. Your twenty-four hours start now.”

She explained that although the Police have standard procedures for apprehending suspects, restraint was being exercised due to the school setting.
“As a law enforcement agency, we have options we use to arrest suspects. But because this is a school environment, we do not want to apply those methods. That is why I am assigning that responsibility to the school authorities. If you fail, we will use our own means to fish out the suspects,” she warned.

COP Donkor stressed that the incident should not be trivialised as mere indiscipline, describing it as a clear criminal matter under Ghana’s laws.
“What we are seeing is not simple indiscipline. It is a criminal act clearly spelt out in the Criminal Offences Act. I do not want to storm this school with my men,” she added.

Her visit forms part of ongoing investigations into the violent clashes that erupted during the District Schools Athletics Games held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Agona Swedru, Central Region.

The disturbance reportedly began after tensions flared between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School and SWESBUS, escalating into a physical confrontation.

During the chaos, a student from Obrachire was allegedly attacked by a group believed to be affiliated with SWESBUS. He was reportedly beaten with sticks and pelted with stones before onlookers intervened to restore calm.

Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing confusion at the venue and a crowd surrounding the injured student. He was later taken to a health facility, where he is currently receiving medical care.

Police say investigations are ongoing and assured the public that all individuals found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
