Ghanaian songstress Cina Soul, born Christie Quincyna Quarcoopome, has officially lodged a complaint with the Ghana Police Service against controversial Kumawood actor Big Akwes over what she describes as hate speech and a personal threat.
The incident stems from a segment on Bryt TV, where Big Akwes was asked to play a game of marry, kiss, or kill involving evangelist Nana Agradaa, actress Vivian Jill, and Cina Soul.
While the segment was intended to be lighthearted, Big Akwes’ response took a dark and violent turn. He claimed he would kiss Nana Agradaa, marry Vivian Jill, and shockingly stated he would use juju to summon Cina Soul’s spirit, stab her to death, pull out her intestines, and eat them between tea bread.
The comments have sparked widespread condemnation across social media, with many calling for accountability from both the actor and the TV station that aired the disturbing content.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, July 1, Cina Soul expressed her alarm and frustration:
“I'm deeply unsettled by this. I initially chose not to respond to earlier comments because I do not wish to be associated with this individual, but at this point, I feel genuinely threatened.”
She further criticized the normalization of such rhetoric on public platforms:
“It is critical we take a firm stance against this kind of dangerous rhetoric being broadcast on our TV and radio platforms. We must not normalize hate.”
According to sources close to the artist, she has since reported the matter to the Ghana Police Service, urging them to investigate the threat seriously.
There has been no official response yet from the actor or the television station.
Cina Soul has in the past clashed with the actor over disparaging comments he made on a similar TV show about her dressing and looks.
This incident reignites ongoing conversations about the ethics of broadcast media, misogyny in entertainment, and the urgent need for responsible content regulation in Ghana’s media landscape.
