Co-Chair of the Citizens Movement Against Corruption (CMaC), Edem Senanu, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his renewed commitment to fast-tracking the prosecution of public officials implicated in the misuse or mismanagement of state resources.

President Mahama, while addressing concerns over persistent financial irregularities highlighted in the Auditor-General’s report, announced plans to work closely with the Chief Justice, Attorney-General, Minister for Justice, and other key institutions to expedite legal action against those responsible.

Responding to the announcement, Mr. Senanu described the initiative as a decisive and much-needed step toward enhancing transparency, accountability, and safeguarding the public purse.

“I think it is highly commendable. Indeed, many of us have felt that this charade of having a Public Accounts Committee sit, highlight figures, and then a year after highlighting even higher figures, without seeing traction on retrieving the money or holding culprits accountable, does not augur well for governance,” he said.

Mr. Senanu criticised the long-standing culture of impunity surrounding financial mismanagement in Ghana’s public sector, stressing that repeated audit findings without meaningful consequences have eroded public trust in governance.
“Because all of these feed into impunity. So how the President wants to deal with this matter is highly commendable,” Mr. Senanu added.
