Bibiani Gold Stars head coach Frimpong Manso has called for a shift in priorities for the Black Stars, suggesting that the team should abandon their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and focus instead on securing a spot in the next World Cup.

Manso’s comments come after Ghana's disappointing performance in the AFCON qualifiers, where the Black Stars currently sit third in Group F after four matches.

With five points separating them from Sudan in second place and seven points behind group leaders Angola, the path to AFCON qualification appears increasingly challenging.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Manso stated, "We should forget about AFCON and instead focus on World Cup qualification." He expressed concern over the commitment levels of the current squad, saying, "With this group, we should have easily qualified without any mathematical calculations.

Our team has lacked the commitment to truly 'die for the nation.' Otto Addo should drop all players who are unwilling to play because, based on their current performances, our local players can outperform them."

Manso's remarks reflect a broader sentiment that Ghana must prioritize assembling a dedicated and passionate squad to regain their standing in international football.

As the Black Stars prepare for their final two matches in the AFCON qualifiers this November, they face slim chances for qualification.

However, with World Cup qualification on the horizon, Manso believes a reevaluation of their long-term strategy is necessary.
