Asante Kotoko’s interim coach Karim Zito has made it clear that he's not concerned about his official title at the club—his focus is firmly on leading the Porcupine Warriors to silverware this season.

Zito, who took over the coaching reins following the departure of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has revitalized the team with a four-match unbeaten run, the latest being an emphatic 4-1 victory over Dreams FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Speaking to the media after the game, the experienced gaffer revealed that his original appointment at Kotoko was for the role of technical director.

However, circumstances quickly changed following Ogum’s exit, and Zito stepped in to fill the void on the touchline.

“I never knew I was coming to Kotoko,” Zito said. “I was just lying down when I had a call, and I was asked to come for the technical director job, not coaching.”

“Unfortunately, my own boy left, so I had to take over till the season ends. So for now, leave me in peace to work and see out the rest of the league and then the knockout [FA Cup final].”

Zito is not just aiming to steady the ship—he’s gunning for the ultimate prize. With Kotoko still in contention for both the Ghana Premier League and the MTN FA Cup, he’s setting his sights on a historic double.

“I prefer [winning] a double, so for the position, it doesn’t matter. What matters now is I’m leading the team, and we have to do better,” he added.

Zito’s hunger and experience could be exactly what Kotoko need as they push for a strong finish to the 2024/25 season.
