The Concerned Women Ghana (CMG), an advocacy group dedicated to gender equality and women's rights, has issued a statement urging First Lady Rebecca Akufo Addo to condemn the bullying acts of Madam Ama Daaku, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Madam Elen Ama Daaku, a female panelist of the NPP is alleged to have used unsavory words on her colleague panelist, Madam Ayisha Alhassan of the NDC during a political discussion, a scene the CWG monitored.

Expressing deep concern over the rising incidents of bullying among women in Ghanaian politics, the think tank wants the First Lady to step in by first calling Ama Daaku to order in a bid to discourage the act.

In their statement signed by its coordinator Annette Enyo, the CWG highlighted the detrimental impact of bullying on the overall political climate and called upon the First Lady, who has championed various causes related to gender equality, to take a firm stand against such behavior.

"Ghanaians woke up to a rather unfortunate incident on a National Television where a female panelist Madam Ama Daaku, used unsavoury words on her colleague panelist, Madam Ayisha Alhassan during a political discussion, the CWG said in a statement issued on Thursday August 31st.

"We were hopeful that voices of concern and women with strong voices would condemn the behaviour of Madam Daaku but sadly, nothing has been seen the past 72 hours other than the usual political shenanigans by friends of both Parties."

Ama Daaku, known for her sharp-tongued remarks and aggressive behavior towards female colleagues, has come under intense scrutiny for her alleged bullying tactics. Many women who have encountered her assert that her actions create a hostile environment that hinders the progress of women within the political sphere.

Concerned Women Ghana emphasizes that addressing the issue of bullying is vital for the advancement of women's participation in politics. It not only affects the mental health and well-being of victims but also perpetuates a culture of fear and intimidation, dissuading many talented women from pursuing a career in politics.

"As a matter of principle, the Concerned Women, Ghana (CWG) want to state emphatically that we are disappointed with the lady Ama Daaku," it said.

"Her approach was unethical, wrong in principle, illogical and her posture and put-down attitude reflect poorly on her character and personality.

"We have the slight hope that our concerns will inspire an intervention from the party Madam Daaku belongs, however, we challenge the First Lady HE Rebecca Akuffo-Addo to double her efforts in ensuring that bullying of this nature is completely annihilated amongst women."

While recognizing the importance of vigorous debate and disagreement in democratic processes, Concerned Women Ghana asserts that personal attacks and bullying tactics have no place in political discourse. They firmly believe that the First Lady's endorsement of their call for condemnation will serve as a powerful catalyst for change.

The CWG further commended NDC's Madam Ayisha Alhassan  for " demonstrating high level of maturity when the situation was that bad and in fact she has portrayed herself as a learning vessel for the youth of today".

FIRST LADY H.E REBECCA AKUFO-ADDO MUST CONDEMN MADAM ELLEN AMA DAAKU’S BEHAVIOUR TO DISCOURAGE BULLYING AMONGST WOMEN: CONCERNED WOMEN GHANA (CWG)

Ghanaians woke up to a rather unfortunate incident on a National Television where a female panelist Madam Ama Daaku, used unsavoury words on her colleague panelist, Madam Ayisha Alhassan during a political discussion.

We were hopeful that voices of concern and women with strong voices would condemn the behaviour of Madam Daaku but sadly, nothing has been seen the past 72 hours other than the usual political shenanigans by friends of both Parties.

As a matter of principle, the Concerned Women, Ghana (CWG) want to state emphatically that we are disappointed with the lady Ama Daaku. Her approach was unethical, wrong in principle, illogical and her posture and put-down attitude reflect poorly on her character and personality.

We have the slight hope that our concerns will inspire an intervention from the party Madam Daaku belongs, however, we challenge the First Lady HE Rebecca Akufo-Addo to double her efforts in ensuring that bullying of this nature is completely annihilated amongst women.

We charge political parties to also ensure that, persons representing them on such platforms exhibit some intellectual prowess of the subject matter as this could reduce unnecessary attacks when one feels defeated in a debate.

We commend Ayisha Alhassan for demonstrating high level of maturity when the situation was that bad and in fact she has portrayed herself as a learning vessel for the youth of today.

We encourage journalists and hosts of such programs to boldly walk out bullies who sort to marr the beauty of their programs.

Kudos to the host, Annie Ampofo. She could do better next time.

Adieus!
