With less than 48 hours to the launch of the 2016 campaign manifesto of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), preparations are feverishly underway at the Sunyani Coronation Park, the venue for the launch.

The Daily Graphic team saw artisans putting finishing touches to some of the structures at the Coronation Park.

The blitz of the manifesto launch is also evident in Sunyani, with NDC colours flying all over the place.

Driving through the town yesterday, the Daily Graphic team saw NDC party faithful fixing banners, hanging billboards and posting posters of President John Dramani Mahama, who is the party’s flag bearer.

The enthusiastic party supporters were also posting posters of some parliamentary aspirants of the party in the Sunyani municipality.

Hotels fully booked

Most hotels and guests houses in Sunyani are fully booked, with only a few of them advertising a few vacancies.

When the Daily Graphic visited the Eusbertt Hotel, situated directly opposite the Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council, there were indications that it was fully booked.

According to a worker of the hotel who did not want to be named because he had not been authorised to speak, the rooms were fully booked three weeks ago.

At Mummy’s Lodge at South Ridge Central, also known as Bakoniaba, the receptionist, Mr Abdulai Yakubu, told the Daily Graphic that some few rooms were left but they had received calls from clients who were coming to pay for them.

The situation was the same at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Guest House, where, according to the receptionist, who also did not want to be named, there were a few rooms left. But the receptionist was sure that they would be filled by today.

“Today is Thursday and I am sure that by tomorrow morning we will be fully booked,” she added.

NDC

Briefing the Daily Graphic at the Coronation Park, the Brong Ahafo Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Mr Elias Sfeir, said: “As is usual with the NDC, we have strategically planned and decided on this programme and we will execute it to perfection.”

He said so far all preparations were moving according to plan and indicated that the platform would be mounted today and tested before Saturday.

He added that security at the park and its surrounding areas had been beefed up, while accreditation for the media was almost done.

Mr Sfeir stated that the party had put in place measures to ensure that the launch was successful to mark the commencement of the party’s electioneering to secure a resounding victory for President Mahama and the NDC.
