Court convicts eight men for assault in Ablekuma North re-run

Eight men have been convicted after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy and assault in connection with violent incidents during the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run held on July 11, 2025.
The convicted individuals, Mohammed Abubakari, Tijani Mahmudu, Prince Dzakpasu, Anas Mohammed, Mohammed Hamda, Darko Otibu Samuel, Musah Muntari, and Ali Saeed, also known as “Bomba” appeared before His Honour Isaac Addoat the Accra Circuit Court, where they admitted their involvement in the attacks.
Victims of the assault included Hawa Mavis Koomson, former Minister of State and ex-MP for Awutu Senya East; Majeed Mohammed Saana, a trader; and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei, Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the prosecution, the attacks took place at the Methodist Church Polling Station, where the victims were monitoring the voting process. The convicts allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on Hawa Koomson and Majeed Saana before turning on Chris Lloyd.
The eight were charged with conspiracy to commit assault and three counts of assault, in violation of Sections 23(1) and 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
All pleaded guilty and were subsequently convicted. However, sentencing has been postponed to Friday, August 29, 2025.
In the interim, the court granted each convict bail of GH¢80,000 with one surety.
