Four(4) more persons have tested for covid-19 in the Ashanti Region bringing the total number of cases in the region to 53.

The Ashanti Region Health Directorate has indicated it is yet to add the four new cases to the five hundred and sixty-six which is registered on government’s official portals.

Disclosing the details in a press briefing, the Regional Health Director Dr Emmanuel Tinkoran indicated that there were some thousand samples from contact tracing being tested at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR).

The Regional Health Directorate, however, complains it is challenged with the inability to get spaces to use as quarantine and Isolation centres.

Ultimate fm’s Isaac Badiako Justice reports that the Health Service is currently appealing to public institutions and the hospitality industry to offer their empty properties for use.

The Health Service has also raised concerns with the canker of stigma warning the trend could keep people from reporting with symptoms and further aggravate the risk of community spread.

Dr Emmanuel Tinkoran has also asked that the National Disaster Management Organization halt all mass distribution of foods at central locations and rather move into homes to provide for targeted vulnerable persons.

This proposition comes on the back of crowds that gathered uncontrollably in the Bosomtwe and Asokwah Municipalities defying all measures of social distancing.
