Eight new COVID-19 related fatalities have hit Ghana, augmenting the country’s death toll to 457, health officials revealed late Sunday.

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the active cases have shot up to 6,352 after 722 new cases were confirmed from the laboratories across the country.

The West African country has a total of 70,768 confirmed cases after conducting 802, 153 tests since coronavirus was first imported into the country mid-March 2020.

Out of the total number of cases, the GHS reports that 63,959 have recovered so far. Currently, 101 persons are in severe condition while 32 cases have been classified as critical. No patient is on a ventilator in the country.

Of the 1,143 cases detected at the Kotoka International Airport, 896 have recovered.
