The final funeral rites of legendary Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba will be held today, Saturday, December 13, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, following a High Court ruling that cleared the way for his burial.

The Accra High Court allowed the funeral to proceed after applicants in a protracted family dispute failed to raise the GH₵2 million required to sustain an injunction blocking the release of the musician’s body.

The court had earlier indicated that failure to meet the payment deadline would compel Transitions Funeral Home to release the body for burial.

The decision brings an end to months of legal wrangling that delayed the funeral and heightened tensions within the late musician’s family.

Reacting to the ruling on Friday, December 12, lead counsel for the defendants, Dominic Osei, described the outcome as a relief for the family, fans, and particularly the children of the late musician. He noted that prolonged litigation over a deceased loved one was both painful and unnecessary.

Mr. Osei appealed to Ghanaians to attend the funeral and honour the highlife icon, urging fans to set aside differences and unite in celebrating Daddy Lumba’s life and musical legacy.

He said the court’s decision brings closure to a difficult chapter and allows the nation to bid farewell to one of its most celebrated musicians. With all legal obstacles now cleared, Daddy Lumba will finally be laid to rest today.
