Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up about his collaboration with fellow Nigerian artist Omah Lay, revealing that their partnership stemmed from the latter clearing up a misunderstanding about their relationship.

Last year, Omah Lay admitted he had assumed Davido “hated” him until the DMW boss played his tracks during a livestream with American streamer Kai Cenat in Lagos.

In a recent video that has since gone viral, Davido explained that he reached out to Omah Lay after seeing his tweet about the incident. Their interaction eventually led to the creation of their hit single, With You.

“How Omah Lay and I got together was, Kai Cenat came to Nigeria, and I was driving him to the club when Omah Lay’s song came up. He asked, ‘Who is this?’ I told him, ‘Oh! This is Omah Lay, he is hot.’ The next day, Omah Lay tweeted, ‘Wow! Davido gave me a shoutout on a livestream, I thought he hated me.’ I DMed him, ‘Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met,’” Davido recounted.

The two eventually exchanged numbers and worked on several songs together. They settled on With You as the track to release.

With You is a standout song from Davido’s fifth studio album, 5ive, and has been nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
