Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has dismissed claims that he owes $50,000 to a wedding planning company, describing the allegation as “crazy.”
The singer reacted on Sunday evening after reports surfaced online accusing him of failing to settle a bill related to the planning of his wedding to Chioma Rowland.
The claims were linked to Funke Bucknor-Obruthe, Chief Executive Officer of the event planning firm said to have handled the high-profile ceremony.
Viral posts included what appeared to be chat messages in which the planner allegedly threatened to take legal action over the supposed unpaid amount.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Davido shut down the reports, writing simply:
“This is just crazy atp (at this point).”
Shortly after the controversy gained traction, Funke Bucknor-Obruthe issued a clarification, distancing herself from the circulating posts and denying that she made any such accusations.
She described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that the statements attributed to her did not come from her official social media accounts.
“This is my official Instagram handle. I’m seeing a false narrative flying around about Davido that I purportedly posted. All posts online — on Twitter, TikTok, Instagram — are totally false and misleading,” she said.
The denial has cast doubt on the authenticity of the viral allegations, with many fans calling for caution against spreading unverified claims on social media.
