One person has been confirmed dead and several others are battling for survival after a violent head-on collision between two commercial vehicles at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
The tragic accident involved a Ford bus (AW 3264-21) and a Toyota Hiace (AS 3552-20). Eyewitnesses say the Hiace, which was speeding toward Kumasi, veered off control and slammed directly into the Ford that was travelling from Kumasi to Ejisu.
The impact was devastating, crushing parts of both vehicles and leaving passengers trapped and severely injured. Among those caught in the wreckage were two senior high school students on their way to school.
Rescue efforts saw all victims rushed to Living Waters Hospital, where one elderly man, believed to be in his 70s, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
“Almost everyone was injured. Some had broken arms and legs, and all the seats in the vehicle were destroyed,” eyewitness Michael Asante recounted.
Providing a medical update, the hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Gabriel Sekyi Kwofie, said 31 injured victims were received at the facility.
He disclosed that 11 patients are currently in surgery, while several others are awaiting emergency procedures. Two victims are suspected to have suffered serious head injuries, while many sustained deep cuts and multiple fractures.

Dr Kwofie also confirmed that two students were among the injured. One, a Form Three student of Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School, was travelling from Dwenase and is now in stable condition.
The other is a nursing student from Ntotroso Nursing Training College, who was on her way to Ejisu Government Hospital for clinical training.
The hospital, however, faces a growing challenge. According to Dr Kwofie, most of the victims lack National Health Insurance and cannot afford treatment, though patients with minor injuries have been treated and discharged free of charge.
Meanwhile, the identity of the deceased elderly man remains unknown as police investigations into the crash continue.
