The December 7 general elections have officially closed nationwide excluding Jaman North Constituency.

The presidential elections is being contested by 7 presidential candidates with the ruling National Democratic Congress and main opposition New Patriotic Party being in stiff race for the presidential slot while political parties and independent candidates are vying for parliamentary slots.

However, elections could not take place at the Jaman North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo region with EC officials citing security reasons. The elections has been postponed until 7am tomorrow morning as a result.

So far there have not been huge surprises pertaining to the trends in results and outcomes in areas dominated by the two leading political parties (NDC and NPP)

All the comtesting presidential aspirants cast their votes in their respective constituencies with President John Dramani Mahama and Nana Addo Dankwah casting their votes at Bole Bamboi in the Northern region and Kyebi in the Eastern region respectively.

Former president Jerry John Rawlings cast his vote at the Klottey Korle constituency while vice-presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party Dr Mahmud Bawumia voted at Walewale in the Northern region.

The elections was characterised by the usual long queues in the morning while turnout in certain areas in Accra was surprisingly low.
